3. Polyphenols and Antioxidants
Peanuts contain natural plant compounds, including polyphenols. Some are concentrated in the thin reddish-brown skin surrounding the nut.
These compounds have antioxidant properties and may help protect cells from oxidative stress. Nevertheless, laboratory evidence about antioxidant activity does not automatically mean that eating peanuts prevents neurological disease.
4. Vitamin E and Other Nutrients
Peanuts also provide vitamin E, niacin, folate, magnesium, and plant-based protein.
These nutrients contribute to normal bodily functions, including cellular protection, energy metabolism, and nervous-system health. A balanced diet containing a variety of nutrient-rich foods is more important than relying on any single ingredient.
What About the 2026 Research?
A separate randomized trial published in 2026 examined peanut consumption in older adults who had cardiovascular risk factors and existing memory complaints.
The study included 27 participants in its final analysis. Participants assigned to the peanut group consumed peanuts and peanut butter over 12 weeks, while the control group avoided peanuts.
