Elliott and I had been together since high school. After we graduated from college, he proposed, and we started planning our wedding.
I thought I was truly happy.
Until one evening, I got a call from the police.
The officer told me that my parents had died in a car accident.
My 5-year-old twin brothers had been seriously injured, and the doctors were fighting to save their lives.
Thankfully, they survived.
I immediately filed to become their legal guardian. I was never going to abandon them. I didn’t hesitate for even a second. I adored my little brothers.
So at 22, I suddenly became a mom, too.
My heart was shattered after losing my parents, but I believed Elliott and I would get through it together.
But after the guardianship was finalized, he came to our house and said:

He frowned and replied:
“I’m NOT raising someone else’s kids. Put them in foster care, or the wedding is OFF. I’m not running a CHARITY.”
It felt like the ground had disappeared beneath my feet. I never expected to hear those words from Elliott.
I said:
“But they don’t have anyone else. I’m not putting my own brothers in foster care. I know this isn’t what we expected, but Elliott… MY PARENTS ARE GONE. The boys and I only have each other now.”
He practically shouted:
